Hey! my sister is in Country Style magazine!

It’s such a buzz to open a magazine and see your nearest and dearest featured in an article. The new Country Style spring edition features a story on Melissa, Dave & the boys and their country life making wonderful Moombaki wines and doing sustainable, responsible stuff on the land, all to the twittering of birdsong and the digging of dirt. (OK friends, you know Mel and I are somewhat different – soil never sullies my hands!)

And if you’re in the mood for some Spring drinking, the Moombaki shop has thoughtfully reorganised things so you can now make up your own mixed case.

This Country Style edition has some lovely photography and great stories to inspire your bucolic inclincations.
Something about the flowers on the cover appealed to Trixie:

I saw YSL-Pierre Bergé on Monday night – a touching insight into the creative, fragile genius & of M. Saint Laurent, and his life with partner Pierre Bergé. Of all YSL’s wonderful creations and innovations, his collection for Dior at age 21, and his early 60s designs are my favourite. Hopefully this moving doco will return for a feature run..

It’s no news that Charles & Ray Eames were the most creative, prolific and inspiring design duo, ever! Their surname has even passed into cliché-ic use on eBay as a search term for all things mid-century.

I’ve just watched their amazing short film Powers of Ten, which explores the scale of things from micro-organism to galaxies, travelling at distances the power of Ten.

So apparently, the impending date 10.10.10 is of special relevance. Their grandson Eames Demetrios carries on their legacy, and blogs about some of the Powers of Ten events that are being held around the world. As he so fittingly says “much of the magic and many of the problems of the world are all matters of scale…. having an understanding of scale makes us all better citizens of the world.”

Palm Springs anyone?

It’s a great thing to have Shag ~ aka Mr Josh Agle ~ in Perth again, and he was at his amusing, bon vivant best (well, we were well-lubricated, esp. after some cocktail indulgence at Deville’s).

Check out the new 260 William St space and the exhibition ‘Inscrutable Mystery Guide’ – the paintings must be viewed in full panoramic splendor. It’s up for 3 weeks.

When Steve Jobs said the iPad was magical, I think he was referring to its powers of seduction. Once you hold the thing, you want one! OK, it’s meant to be an ereader, but I think until they make something electronic smell like ink on paper, books are my pref. But it does make reading War & Peace in bed easy.

And then there’s the gorgeous, clear rendering of images and movies. It’s easier to haul around than my laptop, and when I find I can sketch with it (Sketchbook Pro is kinda addictive), my inner iNerd was awoken.
